Dr. Sean Vogt is the newly hired director of choral conducting at the Piteå Musikhögskolan (Sweden) — Luleå Tekniska Universitet. He will primarily direct the choirs and the undergraduate and graduate choral degrees, with some additional teaching for the sacred music division in organ and liturgy/service playing. Sean holds a DMA (choral conducting) from Michigan State University and a MM (choral conducting) from the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University.Sean has significant experience in academia and sacred music. In addition to being tenured at all university appointments, Sean served for five years as a department chair, where he successfully added music faculty, and increased giving and scholarships. He has been a frequent clinician at festivals and workshops, and presented on choral topics at multiple conferences. He served as the Collegiate Choirs Repertoire and Resources Chair for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Georgia.
Positions in church music have included University Worship Organist/Choirmaster at Southern Methodist University (Dallas, Texas), Choirmaster and Organist for the Cathedral of Saint Paul (Archdiocesan Cathedral for Saint Paul & Minneapolis, Minnesota), and Director of Music at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church (Atlanta, Georgia). He served as the Church Music Repertoire & Resources Chair for the ACDA in Iowa and Minnesota, and served as Dean of the Atlanta chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Sean also has ten years of administrative and artistic experience with non-profit/501c3 organizations.
He has presented on choral topics, and music technology, and/or performed (collaborative and solo) at multiple national conferences: NCCO (National Collegiate Choral Organization), ACDA (American Choral Directors Association), AGO (American Guild of Organists), and OHS (Organ Historical Society). With decades of experience vocal coaching and accompanying voice studios, he is often hired as a collaborative keyboardist for choirs, vocalists, and instrumentalists. He worked on a doctorate in organ at the University of Iowa; MM (organ), Southern Methodist University; BA (organ), Central College in Pella, Iowa; Diploma – Haarlem Internationale Zomeracademie voor Organisten (The Netherlands).
